Since leaving the White House, Donald Trump is facing impending legal challenges. The same would go for members of his family as his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. was recently put through questioning by the DC attorney general.
A court filing on Tuesday revealed that Don Jr. was questioned by the DC attorney general Karl Racine last February 11. Don Jr.’s deposition is part of Racine’s efforts to probe into the alleged misuse of inauguration funds back in 2017 when Trump was then sworn into office. This is also the latest investigation in which the former president’s children were also involved. According to the filings, Don Jr’s deposition raised further questions regarding the hotel invoice that Racine is looking into.
Racine’s office alleges that the Trump Organization had a contract with the Loews Madison Hotel for a block of rooms that will be used for the inauguration worth $49,358.92. The invoice was later forwarded to the Presidential Inaugural Committee who paid the bill.
Alongside Don Jr., Eric Trump has also been involved in investigations as law enforcement officials are looking into Trump properties that both Don Jr. and Eric, both executives of the Trump Organization, are involved in. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is also looking into the Trump Organization’s finances and raising concerns about the business units that both brothers are involved in. A person familiar with the matter revealed that prosecutors are now looking into everything about the now-former president and his adult children.
Eric was previously deposed by Manhattan prosecutors in a civil investigation into the Trump Organization. Former White House adviser and Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump was also deposed in Washington DC by Racine.
The impeachment trials against the former president have evidently caused a rift in the Republican Party as of late especially as GOP lawmakers have also spoken out against Trump. Trump became the subject of an awkward disagreement between House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy and number three Republican Liz Cheney in front of the press.
McCarthy was recently asked by the press whether Trump should still make an address on the final day of CPAC, where he is expected to speak. McCarthy said yes. However, Cheney joined in and said that whether Trump attends or not would be up to CPAC and doubled down on her criticism of Trump.
“I don’t believe that he should be playing a role in the future of the party or the country,” said Cheney.
