South Korea reached an agreement to accept 15% tariffs in exchange for a $350 billion U.S. investment pledge. Negotiations with India stalled, potentially subjecting Indian goods to 25% tariffs, particularly over agricultural market access and Russian oil imports.
The tariffs come amid rising U.S. consumer prices, with Commerce Department data showing notable increases in home furnishings, recreational goods, and clothing. Brazil, facing 50% tariffs, received partial relief for key exports like aircraft and energy products.
Trump’s actions rely on emergency powers under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, now facing legal challenges in U.S. courts.
